WRS Team Raises Over £10,000 for Wessex Cancer Support at the London Marathon

Through a dedicated four-month fundraising campaign, the WRS team has proudly raised more than £10,000 for Wessex Cancer Support. The charity provides essential services to individuals and families across the Isle of Wight and Hampshire affected by cancer, offering both practical and emotional support. 

On Sunday 26 April, team members Sophie and Zia successfully completed the 26.2-mile London Marathon in support of Wessex Cancer Support. They were joined by fellow Isle of Wight participants Chloe Parkes, Paul Thory and Deon Redpath, demonstrating a strong collective commitment to the cause. 

Speaking after the event, Sophie said:
“It was a privilege to take part in the London Marathon for Wessex Cancer Support for a second time. The training required significant commitment, with early mornings and challenging conditions, but the experience of participating in such a renowned event made it all worthwhile. 

I am incredibly proud to be part of the team at WRS, whose ongoing support over the past four months has been instrumental in achieving our fundraising goal. This accomplishment would not have been possible without their generosity and encouragement.” 

Zia added:
“I never imagined I would have the opportunity to run the London Marathon while raising funds for such a worthy cause. It was an unforgettable experience. The support from the crowds was incredible and truly helped carry us through the most challenging moments. 

The final stretch was particularly tough, but crossing the finish line made it all worthwhile. It is something I will always be proud of.”
