Record-breaking marathon runners

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate four WRS colleagues who were part of a record-breaking London Marathon.

Our four WRS London Marathon runners are officially record-breakers.

Sophie Jackson, Cailemb Wolsey, Ben Smith and Luke Bodington were among the 56,640 people to finish the famous race – the most ever.

The WRS team raised more than £12,000, and were part of a record-breaking group running for Wessex Cancer Support, helping the charity raise more than £51,000 in total – its highest fundraising total achieved by London Marathon participants.

Sophie, our Chief Operating Officer, said:

“Taking part in the London Marathon was unlike anything I have experienced before in my life! Running through London with hundreds of people shouting my name and encouraging me to put one foot in front of the other was just surreal. Even people running were cheering each other on.

“Crossing the finish line knowing we’d raised over £12,000 for such an incredible charity was overwhelming. I’m so proud of our team—not just for running the marathon, but for the hard work that went into fundraising and raising awareness for Wessex Cancer Support. Thank you to everyone who has supported us. It’s something we’ll never forget.”

Sophie’s sentiments were echoed by Ben.

“Running the marathon was unreal. It really is true when they say the London Marathon brings out the best in humanity. To do all this while raising some good money for a worthwhile charity makes the achievement even sweeter.”

The money raised will help Wessex Cancer Support continue its efforts to support people living with cancer.

Lorraine White, Interim Head of Community and Events fundraising, said:

“Everyone associated with Wessex Cancer Support is so proud and grateful to all the runners who took part. The WRS team did an amazing job. They all really got behind our cause and smashed their fundraising target. We were so happy to support them through it and incredibly thankful to them all.”
