Celebrating our sporting community
Sport has been so influential to many employees across the WRS workforce, so giving our support to a special awards event is a great way for us to give back.
When the Isle of Wight Sports Foundation reached out to local businesses to sponsor its annual awards event, it was an easy decision for WRS.
The Isle of Wight Sports Achievement Awards is all about celebrating local sporting talent, and this year was extra special, given it was the 50th year.
So many of our colleagues love sport and have experience of being part of the Island’s sporting community, so getting behind this event was the perfect fit for us.

Our Chief Operating Officer, Sophie Jackson, who has represented Team Isle of Wight in ladies’ football, said:
“This event is something the WRS team really relates to. We are all very passionate about our sports and enjoy giving back to the local community. The geographical challenges we face as an island can make it hard for sporting talent here, so it was great to see some of the younger stars on the Isle of Wight being celebrated and recognised for their achievements and dedication.”
Around 80 nominees ranging in age were invited to the event at Medina Theatre, with 24 awards presented across various disciplines. Special awards included Service to Sport, Lifetime Achievement and Outstanding Commitment.
Our CEO, David Jackson, presented two awards and was joined at the event by a team of WRS colleagues.
Claire Beasley, Chair of the Isle of Wight Sports Foundation, secured WRS as headline sponsor during an Isle of Wight Chamber breakfast event.
She said:
“To have such a well-known Island business on board this year made all the difference to our 50th anniversary. These awards celebrate the very best of Isle of Wight sport and the investment by WRS enabled us to make it a night to remember for all who attended.”
